Town of Ashbourne

Ashbourne was the scene where the British force and the volunteeres led by Thomas Ashe faced in a fight which ended in the defeat of the former in 1916. There is a memorial built by Peter Grant for the said engagement. There is a square pyramid that was built in 1890 with interesting panels 2 km to the south retaining the memory of Charles Brindley of Stafford for his 35 years hunting. It was from Ashbourne that the title of Gibson barons derived.
