Some of the medieval walls as well as an interesting medieval table tomb are still there surviving in the grounds of the Church of Ireland. The birthplace of Father O’Growney, helped to revive the Irish language at the turn of the century. In the St. James Church, Athboy we come across a statue erected in his memory. The Hill of Ward surrounded by an Iron Age Fort, once the power capital of the High Kings, is situated 3 km from Athboy. Imparting enjoyment to those interested in the Irish language, Irish music and song there is a Gaelic speaking community in the nearby Rathcairn
